The Wolf King Characters, spice levels, triggers, spoilers & more

The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman is a spicy werewolf shifter romantasy that’s been compared to both ACOTAR and Outlander and I understand the comparisons. And now it’s in development to become a TV series (please do it justice)!

I’ve written a book guide to The Wolf King featuring everything you need to know about the characters, spice levels and where to find the spicy chapters. I know everyone wants to know where to find those, whether you’re trying to read it for the plot and avoid them, or because you’re ready to get hot under the collar. So scroll down to the FAQs and spoilers section of this post if that’s what you’re after.

It’s always good to include trigger warnings, tropes and a few other bits and pieces, so you can decide if this is the book for you, so that’s what I’ve done.

Happy reading!

The Wolf King synopsis.

When a princess is kidnapped by an alpha , war rages between the humans and the wolves. But soon, forbidden attraction starts to grow. . .

Princess Aurora longs to escape the castle and the marriage that has been arranged for her.

But on the night before her wedding, at a dog fight where captured werewolves are made to fight for sport, she spares the life of a young wolf. It puts her on the radar of the powerful alpha who was going to kill him. And it changes everything.

That night, when the alpha escapes, he kidnaps her and takes her to the rugged lands north of the border — where the once warring werewolf clans are beginning to unite. He thinks that she is the key to winning the war against the humans.

Only, as they spend time around one another, forbidden attraction starts to grow. And as Aurora learns that not all wolves are bad, the alpha discovers that she is in danger from both his enemies, and those he once considered friends.

With monsters on both sides, a bloodthirsty war between humans and wolves raging, and undeniable passion growing between them — will their story end in love? Or tragedy?

And will Aurora ever get home?

Does she even want to?

The Wolf King characters.

The Wolf King is narrated from a first person point of view, from Aurora’s point of view.

Main characters.

Aurora and Callum, are our two main characters in The Wolf King, with a major supporting side character being Blake, or debatably, a third main character.

Aurora.

Aurora is our main female character and narrator, living in the Southlands, with a jerk of a father who has arranged for her marriage to a cruel noble, named Sebastian, who imprisons, tortures and uses werewolves for entertainment. Trapped in a patriarchal society, Aurora is a rebellious and clever soul, yearning for freedom from her societal constraints.

Callum.

Character art shared by author @laurenpalhreyman, @read_bloom and artist @drawing.llamas via Instagram.

An alpha wolf shifter who was searching for the heart of the moon, was subsequently captured and imprisoned by the Southlands (Aurora’s kingdom), and forced to fight other wolves for entertainment. However, when he escapes he kidnaps Aurora, as a means to force an end to human-wolf war.

Blake.

Blake is another mysterious alpha wolf shifter, with a dangerous and morally grey aesthetic and demeanour, where no one can tell what his motives are. Enemy, friend or something else. But at least we can all agree, he’s hot. I volunteer as tribute.

Spice level: 🌶🌶 - 2 out of 5 chillies, open-door spice in a chapters.

He's a 10 but he's a werewolf and he kidnapped you to use as a pawn in a war against humans.

Is The Wolf King a why choose?

The first two books of The Wolf King are not a why choose, and are an intense love triangle between Aurora, Callum and Blake. That doesn’t eliminate the possibility for this love triangle to eventually become a why choose romance in book three, The Wolf Queen, although it may come down to Aurora making a choice, freely. Watch this space!

My opinion? Team Blake all the way. But that’s just a prediction.
